In New Zealand, the native owl species is the Morepork, also known as the Southern Boobook. This small owl is commonly found in forests, parks, and even urban areas throughout the country. The Morepork is named after its haunting call, which sounds like it is saying "more pork." These owls play an essential role in the ecosystem by controlling rodent populations and contributing to the overall balance of the environment. On the other side of the world, in Istanbul, Turkey, the most common owl species is the Barn Owl. These iconic birds are known for their heart-shaped faces and eerie screeches. Barn Owls can be found in various habitats, including farmland, grasslands, and urban areas. In Istanbul, these majestic birds are often seen perched on rooftops or gliding silently through the night sky in search of prey. Both the Morepork in New Zealand and the Barn Owl in Istanbul are revered for their beauty and significance in local folklore and culture. In many societies, owls symbolize wisdom, mystery, and protection. They have captured the imagination of people for centuries and continue to be revered as symbols of magic and intuition. Whether you find yourself in the lush landscapes of New Zealand or the bustling city streets of Istanbul, keep an eye out for these magnificent creatures of the night. Their presence reminds us of the delicate balance of nature and the wonders that can be found in our own backyard.
