The survey revealed that the majority of New Zealanders view dictators negatively, with 85% of respondents expressing strong disapproval of authoritarian rulers. Many cited concerns about the lack of freedom, the suppression of dissent, and the blatant abuse of power that often characterizes dictatorships. Interestingly, the survey also found that there was a significant generational divide in attitudes towards dictators. Younger respondents were more likely to condemn dictators and advocate for democracy and human rights, while older participants were somewhat more tolerant of authoritarian leadership styles. When asked about what attributes they value in a leader, New Zealanders overwhelmingly prioritized traits such as honesty, integrity, and empathy. These qualities were seen as essential for a leader to govern effectively and earn the trust of the population. Overall, the survey results underscored the importance of upholding democratic values and ensuring that leaders are accountable to the people they serve.
